Current River: Eminence, MO
I'll be honest, I haven't gotten to write about current/recent trips nearly as much as I would have liked to, mainly because of bad weather leading to an inability to travel anywhere for the last several weeks. I'm hoping the weather will start clearing up soon so I can get back on the trails!
Even though I haven't been able to do much traveling for outdoor trips lately, I've still been on plenty of great trips in the past and one of my favorites is a trip me and my dad took last summer to Eminence, Missouri to kayak down the Current River and hike the surrounding trails.
The river trip was a little over 8 miles in total, and while it was fairly dry so there wasn't much whitewater to contend with, it was still way more of a workout than I was expecting considering how hot the day was and how much paddling was involved. It was a great opportunity to recharge and disconnect from everything, especially considering there wasn't any cell service out there.
Despite the fact that we only had to deal with a couple mild rapids, my dad still flipped his kayak 4 times...even though he might not admit to that if you were to ask him.
Apart from the river trip, I also got the opportunity to hike a few of the surrounding trails and go rock climbing on a some of the bluffs in the area. It was a great summer weekend getaway and I plan to go back as soon as weather permits! If you haven't been in the Eminence, Missouri area I definitely recommend you go check it out as soon as you can.
I've never been Kayaking, but I went whitewater rafting with friends and family in Kentucky several years ago! It was incredibly entertaining traveling down the river, and it's something I hope I get the chance to do again! I suspect I would enjoy a gentler river just as much. Going downstream is a great experience regardless of how fast or slow. Thank you for sharing your memory!
